  What is the Trinity TESOL?
The Trinity TESOL is moderated by the Trinity International Examinations board. It does not run training programs itself but validates course providers, moderates or assesses the performance of every candidate on its courses. Currently, this qualification is available from approved centres in 19 countries worldwide.

The course is designed for people who have little or no teaching experience, and is open to native speakers and non-native speakers of English. Without foregoing theory, the course is designed to be as practical as possible.

  How long does it take?

Courses last for at least 130 hours and may be four weeks full-time (the shortest length) or anything up to a year part-time.

Trainees have to complete the whole course, including various written assignments and a minimum of six hours' teaching practice. They have to pass all key components of the course to get a certificate.

  What does it involve?
  • Awareness of the language - the study of grammar, lexis and phonology.

• Teaching practice - with real language students - methodology, lesson planning, classroom management and teaching techniques.

• Guided observation of experienced teachers.

• Foreign language classes in a language which is unknown to the trainees – giving the trainees first-hand experience of the difficulties language learners meet and various language teaching procedures.

• assessment of the trainee’s contribution to the training sessions

• regular homework

• specific assignments, usually
  - a foreign language journal, where you write about your experiences as
    a student
  - a student profile of someone taught by you
  - a classroom materials project

• Assessment of lesson planning, class teaching and the trainee’s ability to respond constructively to teaching practice feedback.
Can take the Trinity TESOL via correspondence course?

No. The teaching practices are an intrinsic part of the course, so you need to be present the majority of the time.

Why should I take this course?

Along with the Cambridge CELTA, the Trinity TESOL is recognised by independent bodies (such as the British Government’s Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA), the statutory body authorised to approve qualifications in this field in England, and the British Association of TESOL Qualifying Institutions.

The Trinity TESOL is also accepted as an initial qualification by the British Council.
